LakeNavigator - Troubleshooting

Common problems and potential solutions:

Note about LakeNavigator functionality and requirements: LakeNavigator is designed for Internet Explorer 5.x and higher and works best over a high-speed connection like DSL, Cable, or T1 lines.  The site will run on dial-up connections but may be extremely slow.  To increase the speed of the site, particularly the map loading, decrease the size of the LakeNavigator window.  If the solutions below do not address your particular problem you can give us a call at (440) 350-5968 for further assistance.

Problem: Nothing comes up when you click on the LakeNavigator link or the LakeNavigator Public Access System link
Solution1: Check other open windows - If nothing pops up when you click on the LakeNavigator viewer or search link then it is possible the window is already open but hidden behind other open windows.  If this is the case, when you click on the link the window you want should flash at the bottom of your screen in the taskbar. Click on the flashing window to maximize.

Solution2:

ISP or software blocking pop-up windows - Some Internet Service Providers and software will block pop-up windows.  Our site uses pop-up windows to display the main LakeNavigator window and the Public Access System search form.  Using pop-up windows allows us to maximize the size of the map viewer and eliminate toolbars which may contain commands that conflict with the map viewer's functionality.

Problem:

The site works unpredictably and you get miscellaneous errors.

Solution1:

Check Browser type and version - Our website is optimized for Internet Explorer 5.x and higher.  We can make no assurance that our code will function properly in older browsers or different browser types like Netscape Navigator.

Solution2:

Clean out Temporary Internet Files - We are frequently working on the website code behind the scenes to improve and enhance your ability to retrieve information.  These code snippets are downloaded to your machine when you access our site and are what allows our site to function properly.  The files on your machine may become out of sync with the most current files and begin to cause unpredictable errors within LakeNavigator.  To solve this problem the old files need to be deleted.  This can be done by cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files.  Within Internet Explorer you can go to 'Internet Options' under the 'Tools' menu.  Under the 'General' tab click the 'Delete Files' within the Temporary Internet Files Section.

Problem:

Solution1: Be Patient - You have clicked on the map before it was done processing the last request. The map viewer serves up rather large image files which may take a considerable amount of time to load on a dial-up connection.  Making the map viewer window smaller can help speed up the site.
Solution2: Watch Double-clicks - None of the tools or buttons on the LakeNavigator interface require a double-click.  Double-clicking is registered as two single clicks and will often cause the error above.
